Mission, Purpose & Goals

Mission Statement

The United States Catholic Mission Association (USCMA) unites and supports people committed to the cross-cultural and global mission of Jesus Christ in service to Church and world.

The defining moments of mission are emerging as the moments of cross-cultural / inter-faith encounters and shared, faith-inspired and faith-guided struggles for justice.

The challenge for USCMA is to continually discern the call of the Spirit through these mission moments. This ongoing awakening gives shape to the actions and commitments of USCMA working collaboratively with mission-sending agencies in moving the mission agenda into the future.

What is God teaching us when one culture meets another, when one faith encounters another?
What do we have to learn about the evangelization and healing of the modern world?

We know that the essence of the missionary vocation is to "go out to all the world." The mission of Christ and his concern to bring about the Reign of God is proper to all disciples.

To participate in this redeeming mission we must:

witness Christ and prolong his evangelizing action
proclaim Christ and his Gospel to all people
know and welcome Christ in all our brothers and sisters particularly in the poor.

Purpose

The United States Catholic Mission Association unites and supports people committed to the cross-cultural and global mission of Jesus Christ in service to Church and world.

Goals

To enable USCMA members and their collaborators to enrich their understanding of mission in order to respond more faithfully and constructively to the call of Jesus.
To strengthen USCMA's commitment to and involvement in the cross-cultural inter-religious expressions of mission at home and abroad.
To promote and support missionary activity beyond the boundaries of the U.S.
To assist USCMA members to better understand the essential and integral role of work for justice in all missionary activity and to speak and act prophetically for Gospel justice.
