Ongoing Mission Research

The following agencies collaborate with USCMA on various topics of research such as mission, mission history, missiology, cross-cultural education, mission studies and mission education.

American Society of Missiology
An ecumenical community of scholarship, fellowship and mission, ASM promotes the scholarly study of theological, historical, social and practical questions related to the missionary dimension of the Christian church. It relates studies in missiology to the other scholarly disciplines, facilitates mutual assistance and exchange of information among those engaged, encourages research and publication in the study of Christian missions and promotes fellowship and cooperation among individuals and institutions engaged in activities and studies related to missiology. ASM publishes a quarterly scholarly journal of mission studies: Missiology: An International Review.

Association of Professors of Mission
An ecumenical association of professors of mission to promote fellowship and professional usefulness, share research through papers, presentations and discussion of mission issues, as well as exchange of syllabi. The Association meets annually to discuss pedagogical methodology and on-going research.

The Catholic Theological Society of America

An association of professional theologians. Glenmary Research Center

The Center supports Glenmary Home Missioners by providing applied research to Glenmary leadership, individual missioners, Church leaders and the wider society. The Center collects and maintains databases of current conditions and trends; cultivates a research library for use by Glenmary priests, brothers and co-workers; maintains ties with groups related to Glenmary activities relevant to the research focus of the GRC; and publicizes and distributes ideas, information and materials developed by and through the GRC.

International Association for Mission Studies

Overseas Ministries Study Center

OMSC was founded in 1922 as a housing and renewal center for missionaries on furlough. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, near Yale Divinity School, OMSC offers an annual series of seminars and workshops for continuing education in cross-cultural ministries. These programs are open to missionaries on furlough, international church leaders, mission executives pastors, educators, students, and lay leaders from all nations and Christian traditions. The Center publishes the International Bulletin of Missionary Research, a missiological journal.

Service of Documentation and Studies
SEDOS began during Vatican II for the exchange of information and views on Mission in the Church. It is a membership organization made up of religious missionary societies. Inter-religious dialogue and ecumenism are important dimensions of the Service. SEDOS organizes various seminars throughout the year and provides an umbrella for various groups meeting on a regular basis for updating and sharing of information on particular mission situations. They publish the bi-monthly SEDOS Bulletin with articles in English and French. The Service contains an extensive collection of books and a computer-based program of significant mission topics.
