Walking with the Spirit: Living Mission Spirituality Today will consider how Mission Spirituality is understood today and how we as missionary disciples can animate the world around us through action and contemplation. Our guided reflections on the keynote addresses, breakout sessions, cohort discussions, and multigenerational dialogues will help address these questions. We are excited to be partnering with the Oblate Renewal Center at the Oblate School of Theology and the University of the Incarnate Word.
We will have a welcome reception during conference registration at the DoubleTree San Antonio Airport Hotel before we go to the Oblate School of Theology for our Opening Session. Following our Conference opening, Sister Antoinette Gutzler, MM (President, Maryknoll Sisters) will explore the biblical roots of Mission Spirituality and the importance of Scripture in our missionary activity and prayer. Our evening will conclude with the Pope Francis Mission Award Dinner.
We will travel to the University of the Incarnate Word after breakfast. Father John Markey, OP (Associate Professor of Theology, Oblate School of Theology) will speak about how Mission Spirituality liberates us to live for God. Our breakout sessions and dialogue groups will help us see the importance of contemplation and action as components of Mission. Finally, we will celebrate Mass together at the Sisters of Charity’s Chapel, honoring the 25th anniversary of the Liberian Martyrs of the Sisters of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ.
On our final day of the conference we will learn more about the 5th Congreso Americano Misionero from the National Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States. Sister Marie Lucey, OSF (Associate Director, Franciscan Action Network) will share her experiences in social justice advocacy and challenge us on how we can live authenitc solidarity with people on the peripheries.
